A state government official said that more than 200 people died and thousands lost their homes in floods caused by strong rainfall in Madhya Pradesh state in India in the past few days.
The state received 34 percent excess rains in comparison to the past year, leading to devastating floods, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Kamal Nath, State Chief Minister, tweeted on Sunday that incessant rains continued in several parts, including Mandsaur, Neemach, Ratlam, Aagar, Shajapur, Ujjain, Gwalior, Khandwa, Bhopal, and Indore districts.
He is quoted saying that "I am continuously monitoring the overall situation. I am in touch with concerned officials and giving out necessary directions. Relief and rescue work is being carried out and the flood-affected victims are being rehabilitated".
