Oman- Summer burglaries: 132 held for thefts in August

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat -

The ROP has said that it arrested 132 people in connection with 150 burglaries across different governorates of the sultanate in August this year.

Most international and Omani schools are closed during this time in the country and this is the time burglaries spike. Citizens and residents are urged by the ROP every year to take precautions.

'In summer many people are away from their homes and theft cases spike. We issue warnings during this period to alert people,' said an official.

Many people leave behind valuables in their houses when travelling.

'We try to keep gold and other precious items with relatives who are not travelling during the period. We started this practice after our house was broken into some years ago,' said Mubarak al Dhawi, an Amerat resident.

Saida al Naamani, an Al Khuwayr resident, agrees that summer vacations are the time when thefts increase. 'A few years ago our house was broken into while we were away. Since then we are very careful. We don't leave behind any valuables,' she said.
