Latvian State revenue service said on Wednesday that customs have confiscated more than 2 million contraband cigarettes.

The customs official had suspicions that there may be undeclared items in cargo after analyzing the results of scanning of the incoming railway cars on the border with Belarus.

The customs found out that under the official cargo of granite chippings, wooden boxes with 2.2 million contraband cigarettes were hidden.

The state revenue service said that if the confiscated cigarettes were sold on the black market, the state budget would lose about USD384, 892.
