Jordan- Netanyahu's annexation statements sabotage the peace process, says House speaker

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sept. 11 (Petra)-Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Atef Tarawneh, said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's annexation statements reflect depth of the Israeli far right crisis, thus he launches "racist" electoral pledges to annex more lands, which is deemed an escalation that exacerbates the region's crisis.
In a press statement on Wednesday, Tarawneh voiced the House's rejection of all "racist" statements by Israeli leaders, adding Tel Aviv has breached all international conventions and resolutions.
"The extremism of the Israeli far right, represented by Netanyahu, will increase the risk of escalation in our region," he pointed out.
Tarawneh said the peace path should be comprehensive and should reflect on security and stability in the whole region, adding Netanyahu's statement on his intention to annex the Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea, if re-elected, "demonstrates a mentality that doesn't comply with conventions, and a rooted thought of state extremism."
Continuing:"While we always support the option of peace in the framework of a two-state solution in Jordan, we see that Israel is pushing for more violence and tension. Its racist practices undermine all the endeavors of a successful peace that leads to the justice of an entire people, who have suffered the scourge of aggression, murder and displacement."
In a statement issued by the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU), Tarawneh also stressed that Netanyahu's statements entrench the occupier's mentality to commit more violations and attacks on the rights of Arabs and Muslims, and is only a step to win settler votes.
The AIPU holds the occupation government to account for this "dangerous" declaration, which threatens to drag the entire region into a religious war, which no one can bear its dire consequences, affirming the inalienable right of the brotherly Palestinian people to defend their rights by all legitimate means, and to live in freedom and security on their land within a sovereign state.
Tarawneh called on the Palestinian people to consolidate their national unity, and strengthen their internal front to face the dangers threatening the Palestinian cause by adopting a unified national strategy, based on the option of continuing struggle and resistance in all its forms to prevent the Israeli occupation authorities from implementing their schemes.
