(MENAFN) On Tuesday, at least an artisanal miner murdered and eight more were wounded as a result of a landslide that occurred at Shilalo gold mines, in Tanzania's northwest region of Mwanza, police affirmed.
Muliro Jumanne, the Mwanza regional police commander, informed a news conference, "The landslide occurred when the miners were digging gold at a gold mine located at Shilalo in Misungwi district," adding that one miner remains missing.
Jumanne emphasized that the landslide, which took place at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, struck two pits.
The police officer stated, "The landslide blocked the miners' entrance and rescuers had to work hard to unblock the entrance".
