Deadly Air raids in Afghanistan, Balkh region


(MENAFN) Army spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said on Wednesday that, at least five militants died after the government forces' fighting planes struck Taliban hideouts in Chamtal region of the northern Balkh province on Tuesday.


The official said that, three more militants were wounded in the sorties started Tuesday evening; Rezai said that, no security personnel and civilians had been harmed in the raids.


Taliban militants didn't say anything; they have been growing anti-government activities since mid April.


Balkh region with Mazar-e-Sharif as its capital 305 km north of Kabul has been the scene of rising Taliban-led militancy in the past couple of years.
