Iran, Afghanistan to accelerate energy relations


(MENAFN) Iran reached an agreement with Afghanistan to accelerate their efforts on energy collaboration, with areas covering electricity production and transmission.

Energy Minister of Iran Reza Ardakanian confirmed both countries to be creating a working group aimed at mulling over the date of launching the Iran-Afghanistan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission meeting.

Both countries will be working on revamp efforts for Afghan turbines and power transformers, as announced the energy minister.

Last month, the two countries secured an agreement to expand energy relations, including fixing and renovating old transmission equipment and re-establishing the Zaranj grid.
