(MENAFN- GetNews) Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Market report is helpful for future strategy development, and to know about Market Drivers, Restraints, Opportunities, And Global market Size, Share, Growth, Trends, key players Forecast to 2025. Global Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Market by Type (Air-Cooled Type and Water-Cooled Type), By Application (Stationary, Transport and Portable) by Region (Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa) - Forecast to 2025.

Despite being in its nascent stage as a fuel source, the future of hydrogen is incredibly bright. The technology behind hydrogen fuel cells in developing with time and its viability as a substitute to internal combustion engine seems likely. Hydrogen is extensively used in specialty vehicles like buses and forklifts. It is a matter of time that infrastructure is in place to serve the automotive consumer sector. Hydrogen fuel cells have great appeal as them by products are water vapor and heat, which makes hydrogen fuel cells a zero-emission locomotive technology.

A fuel cell can be referred to as a device that can generate electrical power through a chemical reaction by converting hydrogen into electricity. Although batteries and fuel cells are regarded as electrochemical cells and comprise a similar structure, fuel cells need a continuous source of oxygen and fuel to operate. This is similar to how an internal combustion engine requires a continuous flow of diesel or gasoline.

The hydrogen and fuel cells market is mainly propelled by factors such as increasing demand in the telecommunications, automotive and residential micro-CHP sector, and diminishing dependency on non-renewable energy sources. Fuel cells electrochemically combinates hydrogen and oxygen, so as to generate electricity, heat and water as a by-product. Unlike, batteries, fuel cells uninterruptedly generate electricity as long as a source of the fuel is supplied. Fuel cells do not burn fuel, making the process silent, pollution-free, and up to two to three times more effective than combustion technologies.

How Does Hydrogen Fuel Cell Work?

A fuel cell requires three major components to create a chemical reaction: cathode, anode, and electrolyte. Hydrogen fuel is first channeled to the anode through flow fields. The hydrogen atoms then become ionized and carry a positive charge. The oxygen then enters the fuel cell at the cathode, where it merges with electrons returning from the ionized hydrogen atoms and electrical circuit. After the oxygen atom picks the electrons, it travels through the electrolyte to merge with the hydrogen ion. The amalgamation of ionized hydrogen with oxygen act as the base for the chemical reaction.

A polymer electrolyte membrane then allows selected ions to pass between the cathode and anode. The chemical reaction would be disrupted if the electrolyte allowed all the ions and electrons to pass freely. At the end of the procedure, positively charged hydrogen atoms react with oxygen to form water and heat, thus creating an electrical charge.

Facts about Hydrogen & Fuel Cells

  • Hydrogen - the most abundant element on Earth. It is an alternative fuel, having high energy content in terms of weight. Hydrogen is locked up in huge quantities in hydrocarbons, water, and other organic matter. The element can be produced from a variety of domestic resources, including biomass, fossil fuels, and water electrolysis with solar, wind, and grid electricity.

  • Fuel cells are used to power different applications. Hydrogen & fuel cells are used in a diverse range of applications, right from powering buildings to cars, portable electronic devices to trucks, and backup power systems. As fuel cells can be grid independent, they are an option for critical load functions like telecommunication towers, data centers, emergency response systems, hospitals, and military applications for natural defense.

  • Fuel cells produce electricity without emission or combustion and are similar to batteries. They do not need to recharge and do not run down. Fuel cell vehicles can also reduce CO2 when compared to conventional gasoline vehicles. Thus, fuel cells are a clean way to generate power.

  • Fuel cell electric cars have a driving range of more than 300 miles, which is similar to gasoline vehicles. They can refuel in a few minutes, and the refueling experience is almost similar to a gas station.

The surging demand highly influences the hydrogen & fuel cells market in the automotive, telecommunications, and residential micro-CHP sector. The benefits of hydrogen and fuel cells over major segments to generate pollution-free energy will highly influence its growth across the globe. Automakers like Hyundai, Toyota, Daimler, and Honda have exhibited their hydrogen fuel powered vehicles, which relates to their zero-emission quality.
