Oman- Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: Al Faisal hopes to bounce back at famed Monza

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Following the disappointment of missing out on a top-ten finish at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium last week, young Omani racer Al Faisal al Zubair is confident that he can bounce back at this week's eighth and penultimate round of the 2019 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup  at the famed Monza circuit in Italy.

Al Faisal, who races for the BWT Lechner Racing Team, finished 13th at Spa, climbing up four places after qualifying P17.

The P13 at Spa led Al Faisal to slip to overall 11th spot but a solid show at Monza is certain to help him return to a top-ten overall position.

He now has 35 points in the drivers' standings.

Al Faisal knows that he has the pace and the skill-set and he has displayed in abundance during the series with four top-ten finishes so far. Besides that, Al Faisal missed twice top-ten finish narrowly as he claimed 11th spots in third and fourth rounds.

Speaking ahead of the race, Al Faisal said, 'I am excited for Monza as it's a track I like. Two more rounds remain in the Supercup, one at Monza and the double-header in Mexico. Hopefully, Monza will be a good race for me.'

Al Faisal's BWT Lechner Racing Team teammates - Julien Andlauer and Michael Ammermüller - are tied at the top of the drivers' championship with 92 points apiece heading into the Monza showdown.

Both Turkey's Ayhancan Güven and Larry Ten Voorde were able to gain ground on the series front-runners last weekend and are now tied in third place, just 16 points behind with three races to run.

Drivers will be able to carry out their practice session on the circuit on Friday before the 30-minute qualifying session fires into life on Saturday afternoon. The eighth round is scheduled on Sunday.

Overall standings (after round seven): 1 Julien Andlauer (92 points), 1 Michael Ammermüller (92), 3 Larry ten Voorde (76), 3 Ayhancan Güven (76), 5 Florian Latorre (69), 6 Mikkel Pedersen (56), 7 Tio Ellinas (55), 7 Jaxon Evans (55), 9 Jaap van Lagen (52), 10 Dylan Pereira (50), 11 Al Faisal al Zubair (35).
