Malaysia eyes stronger cooperation with Vietnam

(MENAFN) Malaysia is seeking to bolster and deepen its bilateral relations and cooperation with Vietnam, as the country sends its Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on an official visit to Vietnam.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Malaysian prime minister will be engaging in talks related to collaboration between their countries alongside matters of mutual interest.

In a statement, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry affirmed that "Vietnam is a close friend and an important partner of Malaysia."

It added: "the visit will provide an opportunity for both countries to consolidate the already close bilateral ties, and further reinforce the commitment outlined in the Framework of the Strategic Partnership, signed in August 2015."

Last year, bilateral trade between Malaysia and Vietnam reached USD13.3 billion to mark a strong performance.
