Jordan- Razzaz lays foundation stone for permanent Badia and rural products expo

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug. 25 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Omar Razzaz laid the foundation stone for the 'Permanent Exhibition of Badia and Rural Products' in a ceremony held on Sunday and organized by the ministries of agriculture and environment.
The exhibition, which is located near the seventh circle west of Amman, comes as part of a government's program of priorities aimed at combatting poverty and unemployment and supporting economic and social initiatives.
The exhibition is aimed at creating job opportunities for the youth and women from rural communities, and at attracting Arab and foreign visitors to the Kingdom, especially in the summer.
The exhibition, funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Jordan Cooperative Corporation and the Environmental Compensation Program, represents a qualitative opportunity to enhance the competitiveness and demand for local products.
Razzaz stressed the importance of the idea of the exhibition, since it has an active role in linking production to consumption, and provides a platform for the local product, adding that the success of temporary fairs had laid the foundations for setting a permanent exhibition.
He pointed out that His Majesty King Abdullah II had always stressed the need to involve the youth in the production process to allow them to contribute to the building and development of the society, stressing that they should never be isolated from their land, and from what motivates them to be active members in the production chain.
Razzaz underscored that the exhibition should be the corner stone for a participatory relation that would contribute to translating the real activity of Badia and rural citizens on the ground and working on marketing their different products internally and externally. He noted that such exhibitions rebuts false claims that rural areas do not produce.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with the aim of initiating the implementation of the Permanent Exhibition of Badia and Rural Products.
