Jordan- Ministry of Energy provides energy saving programs for 48 hotels

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug. 25 (Petra) - Forty eight hotels in the cities of Aqaba, Petra and Madaba will be targeted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources's "Energy Efficiency Program" through the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) to increase the hospitality facilities' competitiveness by reducing their monthly bills.
A statement by Minister of Energy, Hala Zawati, said on Sunday that 3- 4 star 14 hotels in the Petra province benefited from the project, while work is still in progress of being completed in 30 hotels in Aqaba, and 4 in Madaba.
"The program focuses on energy rationing, which saved consumption in hotels that benefited from the program by 40 to 60 percent, enabling them to cover the expenses of maintaining services and employment opportunities," the statement added.
The program is implemented by the Ministry through JREEEF as part of the government's strategy to support the tourism sector, by helping it address the pressures facing hotels and encouraging investment in the field of energy conservation and renewable energy, which will be positively reflected on the economy, the statement pointed out.
The minister praised the donors' support, especially the French Development Agency, stressing the importance of this partnership in promoting development opportunities in Jordan, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and relieving pressure on the public budget, which is one of the challenges of the energy sector.
