Oman- Over 35% increase in gemstone sample inspections in Q1 2019

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) inspected 298 gemstone samples in Q1 of 2019, a 35.5 per cent increase as compared to 220 last year. 

Gemstone samples inspected under category one stood at 199 compared to 170 in the corresponding period last year, an increase of 17.1 per cent. It inspected 87 gemstones under category two this year as compared to 49 in 2018, and 12 samples under category three against one in 2018.

Category one includes gemstones such as diamonds, sapphire, emerald, black opal, demantuit, alexandrite, chrysoberyl and all artificial gemstones made in modern ways. Category two covers single jewellery, inbuilt and unpolished stones made in traditional ways. Category three includes glass and plastic formations.
