(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) MAIMANA - Local officials onSaturday said Taliban militants lashed a girl and a man for elopement chargesin a kangaroo court in Almar district of northwestern Faryab province.
Abdul Karim Yourish, Faryabpolice spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban militants punished thetwo persons on elopement in Qarayee area of the district on Friday afternoon.
After the Taliban's courtdecision, both the guy, 20 and the girl, 17 was lashed 50 times each, he said,adding the girl was handed over to her family while the guy was still with theTaliban.
Khairullah Qarayee, a formercommander in the area said that the girl was engaged but she was eloped with adifferent man and the Taliban lashed them both in public.
A local Taliban official inFaryab, who wished to go unnamed said that they captured the girl and the guyin Qaisar district of the province on Friday morning.
He said each of the tworeceived 39 lashes. The girl joined back her family but the guy would be in theTaliban's detention for six months, the source said. (Pajhwok)
