KABUL: The US special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation,
Zalmay Khalilzad said that his country was ready to finalize the remaining
issues of peace talks with the Taliban representatives, but if they 'are ready
as well'.

'Productive week in Washington, briefed management on where
we are and next steps, back on the road again. First stop Doha where we will
try and close on remaining issues. We're ready. Let's see if the Taliban are as
well,' Khalilzad twitted on Wednesday.

This comes as the US state department, said in a statement that
Khalilzad's trip was considered as part of general efforts towards peace
process and end of conflicts in Afghanistan.

This would be the ninth round of peace talks between him and
Taliban representatives to be held in Qatar's capital, Doha.

After discussion with the Taliban representatives, the
statement said that Khalizad would leave Doha for Kabul to meet with the Afghan
officials to discuss peace process and intra Afghan talks.

The Taliban has not expressed any willingness for talks with
the Afghan government so far.

President, Ashraf Ghani 's spokesman, Sediqi Sediqi has said
that the Afghan government took cautious steps toward peace process to prevent
the possible threats pose after US troops pull out.

Khalizad made the trips after he met US President Donald
Trump on August 16th, where he briefed him about issues on peace negotiations.

Trump has said that the US had held tremendous negotiations
with the Taliban and Afghan government.

He has said that US would decrease the number of its troops
to less than 13,000 but a notable number of intelligence would be remained.
