Pakistan- PTI leader shot dead in Nowshera


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) NOWSHERA: A district leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former councillor was shot dead by unknown armed men in Nowshera on Tuesday.

Police said unknown armed men came on a motorcycle and opened fire on the vehicle of the PTI leader Dost Muhammad near a police post and escaped the scene. Dost Muhammad, who was a contractor by profession, died on the spot in the firing incident.


The body of the deceased was taken to District Headquarters Hospital Nowshera where it was handed over to heirs after post mortem. Police said it was apparently a target killing incident.

Sources said Dost Muhammad was an important leader of the PTI and he was close to Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak. The sources said the culprits while fleeing the scene left behind the motorcycle and pistol in the fields.

Relatives of the slain PTI leader said he had no enmity with anyone. Dost Muhammad was a social worker and he remained union council member twice.

Police refused to disclose details about the murder case. A case about the incident has been filed by the brother of the deceased against unknown culprits. Further investigation into the case is underway.

The target killing incident in Nowshera happened few days after nine people, including policemen, were injured in a blast in Azakhel Payan area of the district.

Police said unidentified miscreants had planted an explosive device in a gas cylinder in the gate of the house of a tribal elder from Mohmand tribal district on August 07. The Bomb Disposal Unit was called to defuse the bomb. The officials were defusing the bomb when it exploded due to which three officials of the Bomb Disposal Unit and six other people were injured.

The miscreants had planted the bomb to target the tribal elder. The injured persons were taken to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar for treatment. According to the hospital administration, the condition of the injured persons was out of danger.

The injured policemen were identified as Habibullah, Arif Naeem Khan, while the injured civilians were identified as Abdul Aziz, Waheed, Habibullah, Hayat, Azmat and Saeed Nawab. Police enhanced security measures in the district after the blast.
