(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Canada has renewed its commitment to helping the Afghans take control of their destiny, saying relations between the two countries continue to be on the upswing.
'Our people-to-people ties continue to grow and we are working together to advance shared priorities and lay the foundation for a safer and more secureAfghanistan ,' the Canadian prime minister said.
In a statement on Afghanistan's 100th Independence Day on Monday, Justin Trudeau said: 'Today, I join Afghans and the Afghan-Canadian community to celebrate 100 years of Afghanistan's independence.'
Over the century following independence, the people of Afghanistan had shown incredible resilience in the face of adversity, the Canadian leader said.
'Today, Afghans continue to work towards a better future for their country, in particular forwomen and girls,' Trudeau added.
Afghan-Canadians continued to show immense strength and perseverance, breaking down barriers and helping to shape Canada for the better, he said.
'On behalf of the government of Canada, I invite all Canadians to celebrate the important contributions that the Afghan-Canadian community makes to our country.
'I extend my best wishes to everyone celebrating Afghanistan's Independence Day, here in Canada and around theworld ,' the premier concluded.
