(MENAFN- Asia Times) Chinese parents spend an average of 9,000 yuan (US$1,250) per child on study holidays, according to a survey.
Ctrip, China's largest online travel agency, asked parents in 15 Chinese cities how much they had been spending on their school-aged children over the summer, the Paperreported .
The survey showed that the average family study tour cost 22,000 Chinese yuan, a 2.1% increase from 2018.
Guangzhou parents spent the most, budgeting 11,963 yuan per child, followed by those in Beijing (10,380 yuan) and Shanghai (9,830 Chinese yuan).
A Guangzhou mother of a 10-year-old boy surnamed Zhang said she paid 5,000 yuan for summer tutorial classes.
In addition, in order to broaden her son's horizons, she said her three-member family went on a trip from Qinghai Lake to Dunhuang, which cost another 20,000 yuan.
Experts advise that parents take on board their children's opinions when planning a study tour and make consensus decisions based on their needs and financial situation.
Meanwhile, fewer families are choosing to travel to the US, preferring to go on shorter, more affordable study tours in Southeast Asian countries, as well as Japan and South Korea.
