20,000 electric taxis to be in service in Beijing by 2020

Wang Jianhua, president of the Beijing Taxi Association said that Beijing aims to have about 20,000 electric taxis by the end of the upcoming year 2020 as a part of air pollution prevention plan, according to Xinhua.

800 taxis were already sent to local taxi companies on Friday by Friday by Beijing Electric Vehicle Co. (BJEV).

Having a range of 300 km, the new taxis can change batteries for fully charged ones at any battery swap stations.

Zhang Xiyong, general manager of Beijing Automotive Group Co., the parent company of BJEV, said that a 100 battery swap stations have been built so far in Beijing, more than 190 power charging and battery swap stations will be put up in the city by next year.
