Burning ship leads to 7 deaths in Indonesia

Yusuf Latief, Indonesian head of communication for media at the national search and rescue office, said that 7 people, 2 of whom are children, died in a fire as a ship burned down in waters off Indonesia's Sulawesi district on Saturday, 4 others went missing.

The accident took place in waters off Bokori Island that falls in Konawe region after the ship departed from a sea port in Kendari.

The official said that "The incident started with appearance of fire in the engine room. The crews of the ship tried to extinguish it but failed. The fire kept getting bigger. Consequently, passengers jumped into the water".

The fire has been put out by another ship, 61 people survived the accident and were rescued by local sailors.
