Oman- Sultanate received nearly 2,000 cruise ship tourists in June: NCSI

As many as 1,883 tourists arrived on cruise ships to the sultanate in June, an increase of 3.6 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year, stated the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

NCSI stated that cruise ships brought 187,000 tourists to the sultanate until May, an increase of 48 per cent compared to the same period of 2018.

As per NCSI, top five nationalities comprised Germans (68,976), Britons (21,886), Italians (16,274), Spanish (10,341) and Americans (8,264).

Meanwhile, Oman's ports received 298 cruise ships during 2018-19. This is an increase of 106 over the number of tourist ships which arrived in 2017-18.

The number of cruise ships that arrived at Port Sultan Qaboos was 147, while Port of Khasab port received 72 and Port of Salalah 79.

The number of tourists who arrived on cruise ships in 2018 was 193,467. This year, the number is expected to reach 220,000.

The Ministry of Tourism is making efforts to attract major cruise ships to call on at sultanate's ports so that the country can strongly emerges as a top cruise destination in the world.

The Omani ports receive tourists from various countries. They come to the sultanate to enjoy its beauty and to learn about the culture, traditions and heritage. They also want to enjoy the diverse Omani environment. The period between October and April is the time when the number of cruise ship arrivals increase.

The ministry organises, in cooperation with local agents, a number of entertainment activities for tourists arriving on these ships.
