(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: In Pakistan, 3.1 Million Children are not receiving recommended Nutrition in the first six months of newborn babies, says Nutrition International survey. The survey further revealed that more than 44,000 children die every year due to preventable disease such as diarrhoea and pneumonia in the country.
The statistics were revealed during an event organized to observe the World breastfeeding week with the theme of 'Empower Parents Enable Breastfeeding' here in a local hotel in Peshawar by Nutrition International Right in collaboration with Provincial Health Services Academy, Public Health Association, Department of Health and Provincial Nutrition Cell Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Secretary health Dr Farooq Jamil and the other speaker and guests was Director Nutrition International Dr Shabina Raza, Director-General PHSA Dr Janbaz Afridi, Director Nutrition Cell DOH Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Haroon Khan and Dr Younas was the speaker at the seminar, apart from that District health officer, DHO's, Nursing Schools principles and more than three hundred Nurses, Community Midwives & LHWs have participated.
While addressing to the seminar Director Nutrition International (NI) Dr. Shabina Raza said that according to the National Nutrition survey the current situation in Pakistan is that 3, 166, 614 children not receiving proper nutrition in the first six months and 44,302 Children dies due to preventable diarrhoea and pneumonia, she said that NNS 2018 Early Inclusive was 45.8 % and exclusive Breastfeeding was 48 %. While the Early initiation of breastfeeding in KPK is 46% and exclusive breastfeeding is 60% who are not feeding their children.
Dr Shabina expressed the need to raise breastfeeding rates from childbirth to two years, fully implement the international code of marketing of breast milk substitutes, Enact paid family leave and workplace breastfeeding policies, to improve access to skilled breastfeeding counselling as part of comprehensive breastfeeding policies and program in health facilities.
She asked for strengthening links between health facilities and communities and strengthen monitoring system that tracks the progress policies, programs and funding towards achieving both national and global breastfeeding targets.
In the seminar, some students also played a drama role to show that how much a newborn baby need Mother milk the conclusion was that everyone should convey this message to other that giving her own milk to their children's is good for both health and the women's should eat healthy food after pregnancy.
