Tarek William Saab, Prosecutor General, said that a gold trafficking group was arrested in Venezuela by police, the group has previously smuggled gold to the Dominican Republic, according to Xinhua.
He stated that "Gold-smuggling causes very serious damage to the national economy... it is an strategic mineral used as monetary reserve and which is used on international transactions".
He also added that "Those who smuggle gold become public enemies of Venezuela's economy".
An arrest warrant was issued for the criminal group leader, Roberto Espejo.
