Sohar University, Huawei ink MoU to empower ICT leaders in Oman

Sohar University (SU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei Tech Investment (Oman), which will see the first Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA) programme launched in Oman.   

The MoU was signed by Prof Hamza Edrees, deputy vice chancellor, Sohar University, and Robin Chen, CEO, Huawei Oman.

According to the memorandum of understanding, Huawei will deliver its training and certification programmes to SU through HAINA, while promoting SU as a training organisation for its students and customer base for HAINA-based programmes and selected professional programmes.

Prof Edrees said, 'We are happy to partner with Huawei and work together on enhancing the ICT knowledge and skills of our students. I believe the HAINA programme will have a significant impact on the smart evolution of our society and country.'

Additionally, Huawei will provide Huawei Certification Academy Instructor (HCAI) training for professional instructors for each course direction.

Prof Barry Winn, vice chancellor of Sohar University, Prof Ghassan, deputy vice chancellor of Sohar University also joined the signing ceremony.

Both parties will monitor the HAINA programme and offer suggestions for continuous improvement, explore opportunities for alliances, and seek to address the ICT skills requirements within Oman's ICT landscape. Chen said, 'We are happy to roll out our ICT academy programme in Oman in partnership with a leading educational institution such as Sohar University.

'The Huawei academy will equip Omani youth with the necessary ICT skills and support digital transformation in the sultanate.'
