Ukrainian farmers already harvest over 23 mln tonnes of grain


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukrainian farmers harvested 23.5 million tonnes of grain crops from an area of 6.6 million hectares, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has reported.

"As of July 22, Ukrainian farmers harvested 23.5 million tonnes of grain crops of the new harvest from an area of 6.6 million hectares, or 68% of the target," the report says.

In particular, Ukrainian farmers threshed 16.9 million tonnes of wheat from an area of 4.5 million hectares (68%); 6 million tonnes of barley from 1.8 million hectares (73%); 549,000 tonnes of peas from 242,000 hectares (86%); 42,000 tonnes of rye from 16,000 hectares (14%); and 20,000 tonnes of oats from 9,000 hectares (5%).

Also, 2.6 million tonnes of winter rape were gathered from an area of 1.1 million hectares (83%), with a yield of 23.9 centners per hectare.

As Ukrinform reported, as of July 19, 2019, farmers in all regions harvested 21.6 million tonnes of grain crops an area of 6.1 million hectares, or 63% of the target.

The sowing campaign 2019 began a month earlier than last year. The total area under agricultural crops in all categories of farms for the 2019 harvest is about 27.7 million hectares.
