Mafia deals reach a new peak in northern Italy

The Italian Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate (DIA) has released a new report stating that suspected mafia operations have reached a new peak of 46.3 percent in Italy's northern districts, while the center is at 18.7 percent and the south at 33.8 percent, as reported by Xinhua.

As quoting from the report, it says that "most of the suspected financial transactions of 'institutional interest' have emerged in the northern regions of the country, which could be indicative of a 'liquid' mafia that invests in this part of the country in a hidden manner, using criminals as figureheads for its own purposes".

The report has also said that external mafia operators are being around more often, the DIA called those "facilitators", or "laundering artists", they handle global deals in offshore locations.
