Landslide in Bangladesh claims 30 lives

A UN spokesman stated on Friday that 30 lives were claimed by landslides and flooding set off by rain in parts of Bangladesh as reported by the Humanitarian partners of the United Nations, according to Xinhua.

He also said that the situation was aggravated by the climate change, although the country hosting more than 700 river is more likely susceptible to flooding during every monsoon season, he as well stated that the landslides caused at least 30 deaths and 2m people were left suffering consequences.

He also told that the Melting glaciers in the Himalayas contributed to the flooding, as its rivers flow into Bangladesh.

The WFP is working with the Bangladeshi government departments and local authorities in order to assist and support the people affected by the natural disaster.
Food, shelter and emergency cash are being provided by the government according to the Haq, with support from the UN and its humanitarian partners
