(MENAFN) Looking to bolster the use of clean energy in Kenya, the country was announced to be pushing for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exploitation.
So far, more than 70 percent of Kenyans are living in rural areas where they depend on charcoal and firewood for cooking, heating and lightning to badly impact forest cover.
"Kenya is promoting use of LPG as part of plans to transition to green energy sources," stated principal secretary for petroleum at Kenya's Ministry of Petroleum and Mining Andrew Kamau.
Kamau further added that homes with LPG usage account for less than 5 percent in the country, adding that the government is aiming to boost this figure to hit 42 percent.
