Doha: A high-profile delegation from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has visited Sierra Leone and Liberia to discuss mutual relations and enhance QRCS's humanitarian diplomatic roles in Africa.

QRCS's delegation comprised Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary-General, and Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, Head of International Relations.

Over a week, the delegation met with top government officials in the two countries, visited the communities affected by mudslides, and held talks with top officials of their fellow National Societies.

Among the meetings held by the delegation were with the presidents, secretaries-general, senior managements, staffs, and volunteers of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) and Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS).

Most importantly, two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed by QRCS and its host National Societies, as a framework of cooperation and stronger relations.

Under the agreements, the parties shall work together on the issues of common interest, principally the launch of water and sanitation, health and hygiene, food security and nutrition, and livelihood projects.

Other aspects of cooperation will involve improvement of community resilience in the face of natural disasters and climate change, disaster preparedness and response, provision of ambulance and emergency care, and other activities related to the mandates of QRCS. It was agreed to create joint committees to work towards the relevant goals in the respective capacities of each party.
