Kuwait- 'Parachute employment' continues

(MENAFN- Arab Times) MP proposes increase in minimum pension

KUWAIT CITY, July 17: In a bid to improve the welfare of retirees, MP Saleh Ashour submitted a bill on amending Article 19 of Amiri Decree 61/1976 on social security in order to increase the minimum pension from KD650 to KD1,200. In his explanatory note, the MP asserted that due to the rising cost of living, the current minimum pension is no longer sufficient for the basic needs of retirees.

Considering the corresponding regulations such as that on the number of children, the amendment does not only increase the minimum pension but it also nullifies the related terms and regulations, he added.

Furthermore, prompted by the recent disclosure of the higher management at Kuwait Airways Corporation, MP Bader Al-Mulla stated this is a clear indication that 'parachute employment' continues in the corporation and this could lead to interpellation. He said he is eyeing the board chairman of the corporation for the next legislative term, considering the need to address numerous case files like the capacity contracts, T2 building, Dubai and Miami issues.
