Kuwait in Group B of FIFA World Cup, AFC qualifications


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (KUNA) -- Kuwait was placed in Group B of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) tournament qualifications, playing against the likes of Australia, Jordan, Chinese Taipei and Nepal.
The draw for the qualifications rounds -- involving 40 teams throughout the continent -- occurred in the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Group A gathers China, Syria, Philippines, the Maldives, and Guam. Group C has Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Hong Kong and Cambodia squaring off against each other.
Group D has Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Palestine, Yemen, and Singapore while Group E sees Qatar, Oman, India, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh all vying for the top positions.
Group F brings together Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Myanmar, and Mongolia while Group G will consist of the UAE, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Finally, Group H will have South Korea, Lebanon, North Korea, Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka.
The qualifications will be played in two phases beginning on September 5, 2019, and ending on June 9, 2020. (end)
