Week starts up with Borsa in Istanbul


(MENAFN) After one-day holiday break because of Democracy and National Unity Day on July 15, Turkey's benchmark stock index started the week up 0.78 percent or 762.07 points to open at 97,860.40 points on Tuesday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index decreased 2.32 percent on Friday to close the week at 97,098.34 points with a daily trading volume of USD1.2 billion.

Last week, the benchmark index posted a 2.55 percent decline and at the opening of this year, the BIST 100 hovered around 89,000 points, and the USD/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.7150 as of 9.30 AM local time on Tuesday, as it was 5.7530 at Friday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.4365, versus 6.4710, and one British pound traded for 7.1530 Turkish liras, in comparison with 7.2350. One barrel of Brent oil was sold for USD66.48 as of 10 AM local time on Tuesday.
