Futures Slightly Off Tuesday


(MENAFN- Baystreet.ca) Stock futures pointed to a lower opening for Canada's main stock index on Tuesday, a day after it closed higher.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index stayed positive 22.7 points to close Monday at 16,510.82.
The Canadian dollar gave back 0.02 cents to 76.62 cents U.S. early Tuesday
September futures faded 0.1% Tuesday.
RBC raised the price target on CCL Industries to $73.00 from $66.00
CIBC cut the price target on Finning International to $27.00 from $34.00
RBC cut the price target on Russel Metals to $25.00 from $28.00
On the economic front, Statistics Canada reported that foreigners acquired $10.2 billion of Canadian securities in May, following two months of divestment.
At the same time, Canadian investment in foreign securities resumed to reach $4.1 billion, led by purchases of U.S. corporate bonds.

ON WALLSTREET
U.S. stock index futures rose Tuesday as the corporate earnings season kicked into full gear as companies like Goldman Sachs and Johnson & Johnson released their quarterly results.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials improved 42 points, or 0.2%, to 27,384.
Futures for the S&P 500 added 3.25 points, or 0.1%, at 3,020.50
NASDAQ futures pointed upward seven points, or 0.1%, to 7,994.50
Goldman Sachs reported earnings per share and revenue that topped analyst expectations amid a strong performance from the company's investment banking and trading divisions. Goldman shares rose 1.1%.
Johnson & Johnson, meanwhile, saw a 42% profit surge in the previous quarter, fueled by growth in its prescription drugs business. The Dow component traded 0.5% higher before the bell.
J.P. Morgan Chase also reported on Tuesday better-than-expected second-quarter earnings and revenue on Tuesday. The bank said it got a tax boost from the resolution of "certain" audits. The company's stock slipped more than 1% in the pre-market, however.
So far, just over 5% of S&P 500 companies have reported calendar second-quarter earnings. Of those companies, more than 85% have posted better-than-expected earnings.
United Airlines and CSX are among the companies due to report after the bell Tuesday. Morgan Stanley, BlackRock, and American Express are scheduled to report earnings later this week.
Overseas, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 index returned from holiday to ditch 0.7%, while in the Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index gained 0.2%,
Oil prices let go of six cents to $59.52 U.S. a barrel.
Gold prices gained $1.80 to $1,415.30 U.S. an ounce.
