The Summer Entertainment City (SEC) has served more than 54,000 visitors so far and it is expected to attract more people this weekend, offering a wide range of games, rides, and shows, it is learnt.
SEC, organised by QSports in partnership with the Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC), opened to the public on June 4 (the first day of Eid al-Fitr) and conclude Saturday at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The 29,000sqm entertainment facility serves as the main venue and family-favourite for QNTC's Summer in Qatar programme, which will run until August 16.
'We are offering several interesting shows for the kids including the famous ‘Coco The Clown' who performs magic shows, interactive activities, and game shows. Giant ‘We Bare Bears' mascots will be doing roaming parade every evening, QSports' Head of Business Management Unit Aya Kassab told Gulf Times.
SEC has been featuring live entertainment and roaming shows, as well as cultural performances presented by different embassies such as Indonesia, South Africa and India.
The second day of Eid al-Fitr also witnessed the performance of Georgian National Ballet ‘Sukhishvili', globally renowned for its modernised folkloric themes (choreography, music) filled with classical dance elements.
The group, which performed a total of 15 shows (five shows per day) at SEC, also enthralled the crowd during its first performance in Doha last May 2 at the Katara Opera House.
'We believe that live shows and cultural performances added huge impact on the overall success of the event, Kassab said. 'Cultural performances provided by Georgian and Indonesian embassies got popular among locals, as well as expatriates, especially among the ladies.
She added that a large number of people showed up to experience the cultural diversity and traditional dances, among others, at the City.
According to QSports, visitors have also been enjoying SECs new rides such as the Giant Slide, one of the highest inflatable slides (10metres) in the region; Pirate Ship, an inflatable depot pirate-themed slide features the look of a giant wooden pirate ship, which keeps children jumping, bouncing, and sliding down all day long; Princess Castle, which allows children to bounce, climb, slide, and play; and the Inflatable Ocean Ball, Qatar's soft play and ocean ball pit.
Besides entertainment shows, SEC also houses dozens of amusement rides, skills games with prizes, bespoke trampoline park, a kids driving school setup, mini-golf and giant blocks park for children to play and build with large lego-type blocks.
