Kuwait- Algeria to AFCON semifinals after defeating Cote d'Ivoire


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, July 11 (KUNA) -- Algeria progressed to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinals after defeating Cote d'Ivoire 4-3 in extra time penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In the first half, Algeria's Sofiane Feghouli managed to score in the 20th minute after a wonderful performance from the Algerians.
In the second half, Cote d'Ivoire imposed pressure on the Algerians to equalize in the 62nd minute by Jonathan Kodjia.
Algeria joins Senegal and Nigeria as the nations to have made it to the semifinals thus far.
The Algerians will face Nigeria, while Senegal will meet with the winner of the encounter between Madagascar and Tunisia, who play later today. (end)
