PARAMARIBO, Suriname — Bolivia's President Evo Morales will make a brief stop-over in Suriname en route to Russia on July 10. He will be met by president Desi Bouterse at Suriname's Johan Pengel International Airport where they will sign various agreements and make a press statement.
The two countries plan to ink two agreements. One on the abolition of visas between the two countries, and the other to establish an institutional mechanism for political consultation.
The objective of this foreign visit is to likewise broaden bilateral and multilateral ties said the foreign minister of Bolivia, Diego Pary.
"We now have a presence as a country and with our own voice in all multilateral and bilateral spaces; in that context, the international agenda is very dynamic in July," Pary said in an interview with state media.
On July 1, president Morales attended the inauguration of Panama's new president Laurentino Cortizo.
Bolivia wants to consolidate the bilateral relationship with Caribbean countries the foreign minister said.
Pary said that Morales' international agenda will continue on July 11, with a visit to Moscow, for a "high-level" meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to review strategic projects on the bilateral agenda between the two countries'
"We are a country that since 2006 at the head of president Morales has projected a different diplomacy, a diplomacy of dialogue, a diplomacy of respect and a diplomacy fundamentally that dignifies the Bolivian people. In this context, because our relationship is openly with all the countries of the world and we continue to strengthen our bilateral dialogue with all the countries of the world," he stressed.
On the sidelines of the 49th general assembly of the OAS in Medellin last Wednesday, Diego Pary met the ambassador of Suriname, Niermala Badrising to address issues related to resident Morales' visit to Suriname.
Morales last visited Suriname in 2013 to attend a UNASUR heads of state meeting which Paramaribo hosted.
