RABAT, July 9 (KUNA) -- The ruins of Lixus, 190 kilometers north of the Moroccan capital Rabat, houses the remnants of various ancient civilizations, which ruled and dwelled in the past.
Constructed by the Phoenicians in the 12th century BC, the city of Lixus was also a base for the Roman Empire and to some extent when the Muslims conquered the region. However, the location was left to ruins afterwards.
Lixus; the golden apple in Phoenician, was chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995. (end) jak.gta
