ICO slaps record fine against British Airways

(MENAFN) UK flag carrier airline British Airways is facing the possibility of paying a fine valued at a record amount of 183 million euro, over security systems violations that occurred in 2018.

The fine of which the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) imposed made the flag carrier airline "surprised and disappointed."

British Airways announced that hackers launched a "sophisticated, malicious criminal attack" on its website.

This fine is accounting for 1.5 percent of the airline's global turnover in 2017, less than the potential maximum of 4 percent.
