Oman- 179 weekly flights to Salalah

With the onset of khareef season in Dhofar, airlines are operating 179 weekly flights to Salalah to cater to the tourist rush.

Some of the airlines operating flights to Salalah are Oman Air, SalamAir, Qatar Airways, flydubai, Air Arabia, Air India, Gulf Air, Etihad Airways along with the Royal Oman Police Aviation.

Salem bin Awad al Yafie, deputy chief executive officer of Salalah Airport, said, 'Salalah Airport, which recently received the 2019 Skytrax Award for achieving a 5-star rating in the regional airports' category, is welcoming visitors, thanks to the efforts of its employees in different functions and roles.'

Yafie added that the airport expects around 3,000 to 4,000 tourist arrivals and departures every day until the end of September. 'Oman Airports, which is part of the Oman Aviation Group, in cooperation with its sister companies and strategic partners, is welcoming tourists arriving via local or regional airlines that operate direct flights to Salalah Airport on a daily basis.

'Gulf Air is operating direct flights from Manama airport to Salalah while Etihad Airways will be operating flights from Abu Dhabi this week. Oman's low-cost carrier SalamAir has started two direct flights from Kuwait and three from Abu Dhabi. In total, the weekly flights to Salalah has reached 179.'

Yafie said that every year the airport allocates resources at the highest level to ensure a smooth travel experience for visitors. 'Also, more number of personnel have been deployed at the airport to ensure a hassle-free experience. In addition, the waiting time at baggage carousel does not exceed 15 minutes before exiting the arrival hall.'

The total number of passengers travelling through Salalah Airport by the end of April 2018 reached 442,059, a rise of two per cent compared to the same period in the previous year.

Tourism services in Dhofar are expecting the number of visitors to reach around 1mn this year compared to 826,000 in last year's khareef season.

The airport terminal includes luggage handling units, service facilities with 28 check-in counters and self-service kiosks, jet bridges allowing passengers to board and disembark as well as retail outlets and restaurants.
