Moroccan Crown Prince opens Tangier Port's second phase

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TANGIER, Northern Morocco, June 28 (KUNA) -- Moroccan Crown Prince Moulay Hassan opened Friday the second phase of Tangier Port located at entrance of Mount Gibraltar, at the western edge of the Meditarranean.
Fuad Al-Barini, president of the monitoring council of Tangier Port, told KUNA the new port would expand Morocco's access to the Meditarranean and the African continent.
He said the port would link 77 countries and 186 ports in five continents.
"This has enabled Morocco to improve its position at the international ports' map," he said, thus improving the country's ranking at the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) from 83 to 17.
Al-Bariri said Tangier port handled 3.4 million containers in 2018 and would look forward to receive nine million containers following the expansion.
Tangier port is surrounded by industrial, logistical and services areas housing more than 900 companies thus providing 75,000 jobs.
The port, said Al-Barini, export and import USD 30 billion worth of goods. (end)
