The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Monday that Oman hopes that the Iran and the US will exercise restraint and resolve all outstanding issues between the two parties through dialogues.
MoFA said that Oman is following with great interest the current developments in the region. In a statement, MoFA denied reports that Oman has conveyed any message on behalf of the US to the Iranian government regarding the incident of downing the US drone on June 20.
On Monday, H E Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs met Brian Hook, US Special Representative for Iran and Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary of State and his delegation. They discussed several matters of common concern.
H E Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Nu'amani, Minister of the Royal Office also met Brian Hook and his accompanying delegation. The meeting exchanged cordial conversations and reviewed march of the good historic relations binding Oman and the US in various fields and means of promoting them to serve the interests of the two friendly countries.
The meeting also touched on developments in the region and several matters of common concern. The meeting was attended by the US ambassador to the Sultanate.
According to the US Department of State, Brian Hook is travelling across the Middle East since June 19. He is holding meetings in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
He is discussing the regional issues, including the recent attacks on two oil tankers in the Sea of Oman. He is also sharing additional US intelligence on the range of active threats in the region. 'The United States is committed to working with its partners in the region to safeguard freedom of navigation,' stated US Department of State.
Special Representative Hook will then travel to Europe for consultations with the E3 on June 27. He will meet in Paris, France, with counterparts from the UK, Germany, and France to discuss a range of issues concerning the Middle East situation.
