Oman- Plan to set up recreation space in Ruwi's MBD area

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat -

The Muttrah Municipality is doing a feasibility study to see if it can build a recreational area in Ruwi's MBD area.

The recreation area will have facilities like seating facilities, green space, an outdoor gym, food trucks, a play area with equipment for kids, walkways, a place for pigeons to rest and feed amongst others.

A study is being conducted for the project on the 6,200sq m land adjacent to Wadi Kabir in the MBD area, a source said. 'People use this stretch of land for their morning and evening walks. Many come and sit on the boundary walls of the wadi to chat with friends in the evening hours. It includes both the young and the old.

'There is also an unpaved area where lots of pigeons are fed by locals and expats. This place is not only frequented by residents but many people from far away places.'

The Muscat Municipality has already built a walkway for residents of Amerat. Facilities like recreation areas have a significant impact on the physical and intellectual development of children and happiness of people in the neighbourhood.

Many reports worldwide suggest that physical inactivity is the cause of many diseases. Such recreational areas will help people to exercise in open areas without having to pay anything. Children can play a lot and can be prevented from spending hours together in front of screens. Such places can also be a feeding area for birds where they will not cause any nuisance to public and not ingest tiny stones that come along with the food kept in unpaved land area, the source said.

Getting food trucks in the area will be an icing on the cake, said a resident.
