Abu Dhabi's social incubator plan to offer innovative solutions for people of determination

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Abu Dhabi's social incubator programme will develop innovative ideas that can help solve social challenges for people of determination and integrate them into the society, according to authorities.

Salama Al Ameemi, director-general of the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, said they were still registering people who had innovative ideas to enroll with the Ma'an Social Incubator programme (MSI), which is designed to inspire social entrepreneurs.

"The programme is open to everyone, including those living outside the UAE. People registering for the initiative will come up with innovative ideas and develop sustainable solutions for people of determination," Al Ameemi told Khaleej Times.

"We aim to bring together all sections of the society to support a culture of social contribution and participation. We want to contribute, adapt and develop innovative solutions for social challenges and make a positive sustainable social impact in Abu Dhabi."

The deadline for registering with the MSI programme is July 13, 2019. The public workshop held at Zayed Higher Organisation (ZHO) for people of determination on Tuesday provided details about the programme and how applicants can enroll.

According to authorities, the MSI programme has already received more than 200 expressions of interest from the public and social entrepreneurs from the UAE, the region and other countries including New Zealand, India, the UK, the US, and South America.

People of determination at the ZHO participated in projects and sessions on candle-making, sewing, carpentry, printing, binding and art and music workshops.

Al Ameemi said: "We believe there is no better way to help do this than give entrepreneurs the chance to view the range of integrated services we have for people of determination in Abu Dhabi. We hope this will ultimately lead to not only having more social enterprises but also see people of determination flourish by giving them all the support to succeed."

She noted that people applying for MSI must be committed to developing their social business and innovative ideas through the incubator over a period of six months.

The MSI will support the winning 10 teams of two or three people to develop their social business ideas every six months. The teams will be selected according to a specific criteria and the participants will be able to benefit from mentor guidance, milestone funding, office space, business expertise and access to investors.

The entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to network with industry experts as well as honing their business skills through workshops and training programmes.
