(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, June 24 (Petra) -- Maximum temperatures in Amman are expected to reach 39 Degrees Celsius on Tuesday, according to Director General of the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) Hussien Momani.
Momani told Petra that the Kingdom will be affected as of Monday and for three days, by a hot and dry air mass originating from the Arabian Peninsula.
Mercury levels on Monday will hit 37 degrees, about 6-7 degrees above their annual average, he added.
The JMD urged citizens to avoid exposure to direct sunlight, particularly in the afternoon, wear light-colored clothing and drink lots of water and liquids to prevent dehydration. It also urged families not to leave children inside the vehicles during shopping and to listen to Civil Defense Department's warnings.
Momani said the heatwave will start to ease as of Thursday when temperatures will gradually drop reaching 35 degrees Celsius.
