(MENAFN) France is still committed to its objective to achieve a decline in the unemployment rate of the country to stand at 7 percent within three years.
However, the French government might have to change the target for 2022 if local businesses were impacted by eventual international economic challenges.
Labor Minister Muriel Penicaud affirmed: "we have taken a new step," confirming that "here we have the lowest rate in 10 years" despite forecasts that the unemployment rate will not be registered below 9 percent.
Minister Penicaud noted that by now the unemployment rate is at 8.7 percent compared to the 9.7 percent recorded back in 2017, saying: "it remains very high."
Penicaud added about the targeted 7 percent: "it's an ambitious objective. There are citizens looking for jobs and companies looking for skills. So, we need to be able to reduce it to 7 percent and for that aim, we are reforming trainings and unemployment benefits."
