In just 100 days' time the Middle East will host the biggest ever sporting event to come to the region, with the world's finest athletes competing to win gold.

The city of Doha is also getting ready to deliver a winning performance, welcoming over 3,500 athletes, coaches and officials to the sporting spectacle which gets underway on Saturday, September 28, until Sunday October 6.

Fans can expect a packed timetable of action in both track and field events including the highly anticipated 100m and 200m sprints, through to the dizzy heights of the pole vault jump and high jump and show of sheer strength with hammer and shotput throws.

The competition, which takes place every two years, will be the 17th edition of the championships which have a history of delivering iconic athletics moments which include gold medal wins for sprinting legend Usain Bolt and long-distance champions Sir Mo Farah and Tirunesh Dibaba.

Khalifa International Stadium and World Athletics Village

The iconic stadium will play host to the Championships with the all-seater venue allowing spectators to get up close to their favourite athletes, allowing fans to purchase tickets in dedicated areas close to the action they want to witness.

Host of the IAAF Diamond League meeting and Asian Athletics Championships earlier in the year, Khalifa International Stadium won plaudits from athletes across the world for its fine facilities including the air cooling system, which allows for the optimum temperatures for competing stars, as well as for the thousands of fans packed into the venue.

Throughout the ten days, the excitement begins before fans even enter the stadium with the world Athletics Village greeting fans on arrival.

With live entertainment from different cultures, visitors can join in the fun as well as sampling food from different continents as the world comes to Khalifa International Stadium. Fun for all the family will also see activities to compete in and test your athletics skills as well as competitions throughout the evenings. Visitors can enjoy the World Athletics Village daily each afternoon from 5 to 10 pm.

A Marathon to remember

Whilst the majority of the competition takes place in the Khalifa International Stadium, the championships will see the male and female marathon take place along the Corniche… at midnight!

The midnight marathon will be a world first, with Doha's impressive West Bay lighting up to provide the perfect backdrop for competitors, whilst spectators will be able to witness the event up close with viewing throughout the looped course which starts and finishes at the Corniche.

Who is competing?

From Jamaican flair and USA power, through to Asian spice and African dance, the Championships is on song to entertain with the world's best male and female athletes arriving in Doha ahead of the competition for their training camps. With 213 different countries represented throughout the competition, sprinters such as USA's Christian Coleman and Michael Norman will wow the crowds with bustling shows of pace, whilst long distance runners such as Kenya's Wilson Kipsang and Ethiopian star Mosinet Geremew will be looking to the crowds to spur them on during long distance events.

How can you be there?

With ten evenings of action throughout the competition there are plenty of opportunities for people to attend and watch finals on every night. Gold medals will be handed out to 22 athletes and you can be there to watch world champions claim their glory.

For the first time, fans can also get the best seat in the house with finish line tickets available, ensuring you are up close to those memorable moments.

A limited number of majles seating options are available within the stadium too, so spectators can sit back and watch all of the action in true comfort.  Most days get underway from 4.15pm with 3-4 hours of competition and tickets priced from just QR60.
