(MENAFN - Gulf Times) QFA vice president Saud al-Mohannadi on Monday met with officials of Algerian and Maldives Football Federation at Al Bidda Tower. The Secretary-General of QFA Mansoor al-Ansari was also present during the meeting along with Ahmed Khalil al-Abbasi, QFA Director of National Teams Operations.
The Algerian Football Federation (AFF) delegation was headed by president Kheireddine Zetchi, team manager Hakim Meddane and team coach Djamel Belmadi. The two bodies discussed Algerian team's presence in Doha for the preparations of the African Nations Cup to be hosted by Egypt from June 21 to July 19.
During the meeting, the officials discussed issues of common interest and ways of activating them in the near future. Qatar, hosts of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, are keen to develop the game in both countries, QFA officials said.
Al-Mohannadi assured the delegation of QFA's full support to have exchange programs and ways to develop the world's most popular sport in the two countries and the region. The Algerian delegation expressed its thanks and appreciation to QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani for ‘Qatar's generous support for football' and for ‘hosting top flight football in the country'.
The Algerian delegation wished Qatar rapid progress in their preparation in hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Algerian team, which has played two matches during a training camp against Burundi and Mali, will leave for Cairo on June 18 for the 2019 African Cup of Nations. ‘The Desert Warriors' will play in Group C alongside Senegal, Kenya and Tanzania.
Later, al-Mohannadi also received Bassam Adeel Jaleel, Chairman of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), and his deputy Hussein Jawaz. The visit comes within the framework of the distinguished relations between the two federations which were launched a number of years ago.
In the past two parties numerous agreements to develop the sport in Qatar and Maldives. The officials discussed ways and means to back youth football in both countries. The idea of having exchange programs was also discussed in detail.
