11 dead, 122 injured in China earthquake


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Beijing, June 18 (Petra)-- A strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Sichuan province in southern China late Monday killed 11 people and injured 122.
China's media reported that rescuers were rushing to affected areas in heavy rain near the epicenter, which was located outside the city of Yibin, addingthat a series of at least four aftershocks, the largest of which had a magnitude of 5.1, took place in the following 40 minutes.
The Ministry of Emergency Managementsaid it sent firefighting crews and other rescue personnel, noting that at least 5,000 tents, 10,000 roll-away beds and 20,000 duvets have been sent to the location.
The US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the main quake at 5.8.
