Kabul Sees with Trust Washington Pledges to Afghan Peace: Ghani


(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL- President Ashraf Ghani says progress in the Afghanistan peace process needsregional consensus and attention to relations between Taliban and theirsupporters, adding Kabul sees with trust Washington's efforts to end the war inhis country.


Addressingthe Shanghai Cooperation Organization's summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, onFriday, Ghani said his country was once again connected to central Asia throughKazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and these countries were nowbig trader partners of Afghanistan.


Thepresident thanked Iran and India for activating air corridors and Chabaharport. 'I expect a multifaceted and constructive dialogue with Pakistan PrimeMinister Imran Khan on June 27. I also thank all those leaders who shed lighton political solution to the Afghanistan conflict and I strongly hope the SCOcentral group will work for an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.


Thepresident said they considered the US commitment to a political solution ascredible and they were coordinating to build the necessary internationalconsensus on peace. 'But without a regional consensus on peace and addressingTaliban's interdependencies with their supporters, breakthroughs will taketime, Ghani said.


Ghanisaid his government was committed to the 23-point resolution of the recentConsultative Loya Jirga on peace. 'Although the Afghan war ismulti-dimensional, reaching a peace agreement with the Taliban is a keycomponent for the reduction of violence.


Ghanimade four suggestions on Afghan peace.


• A regional and international coalition forpeace should be formed;


• A regional task force should be formed todevelop bankable programs and projects for regional connectivity and povertyreduction;


• The issue of narcotics as a driver ofconflict and criminality should be comprehensively addressed within the peace-makingand peace-building framework;


• And finally, agreeing to a regionalframework for fighting terrorism.


Ghanisaid the Afghan government will hold the presidential elections on September28, focus on peace, implement a program of self-reliance, invest in regionalconnectivity and renew its international and regional partnerships to pursuethe vision of building our institutions.


'Asa free, fair, inclusive and transparent election is the test of aconstitutional order, we invite international observers to monitor theprocess, he said. (Pajhwok)
