(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A student company has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) for producing fish feed 'Prozolla'.
This company has also signed a two-year contract to sell the feed to one of the largest fish farming companies in Oman.
Eleven students of Higher College of Technology (HCT) in Al Khuwayr are part of the company. Speaking to Muscat Daily, Yumna Mahmood al Shaqsi, CEO of Mahya Company said, 'We won Injaz Oman's Student Company Programme 2019 and will represent the country at Injaz al Arab's regional competition later this year.'
Mahya specialises in the fish farming sector to contribute to the food security of Oman. The feed is being tested for commercial use. 'We signed the agreement with MoAF last month. They will provide us space and offer technical advice. The two-year purchase contract with one of the largest fish farming companies in Oman will help to commercialise the produce and boost our presence in the market,' Yumna said.
For now, the company is focusing on the fish feed market. 'The sustainable fish feed Prozolla is for freshwater fish and red-eared turtles. Our company has 11 members covering production, human resource, marketing, research and development and finance departments.'
She said that Oman has to depend on imports to meet the feed demand of the fish farming industry. 'The fisheries sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. Prozolla will help meet the local demand and contribute to the economy and ensure food security of Oman. Our aim is to ensure that Oman becomes self-sufficient to meet future fish feed demand.'
